Ghostly Wontons

These little critters make me laugh, and they are tasty! Great for adults and kids in the room.

Ingredients

Makes about 20 dumplings · tap what you already have

  • 1 package square wonton wrappers (white, thin type)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped scallions
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Black sesame seeds or candy eyes, for the eyes (remove candy eyes before eating!)
  • Sweet chili sauce, for serving

Your list skips anything you've checked off.

Preparation

6 steps

Step 1

In a medium bowl, mix cream cheese, scallions, garlic and salt until smooth.

Step 2

Place 1 teaspoon of filling in the center of each wonton wrapper.

Step 3

To shape like ghosts: gather the corners of the wrapper loosely over the filling, letting the top flare out like a ghostly sheet. Pinch just enough so the filling stays in.

Step 4

Dab water on the wrapper where you want eyes and press on sesame seeds. Heat oil in a skillet or pot to 350°F. Fry dumplings in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden at the bottom and slightly crisp, but keep the tops light for a “floating” ghost look.

Step 5

Remove to a paper towel–lined tray.

Step 6

Serve with chili sauce drizzled on top and around the plate.
